Before we send out any order, the printed item and its print quality go through a detailed inspection to ensure our customer is receiving the very best product possible. If we spot any imperfection in the item or the printing, we put the flawed product aside and start over. At Customized Girl, we are very attentive to what is going on in the world and are very well aware that there are others in need. That is why instead of throwing out these imperfect products, we donate all of them directly to Planet Aid.
Making this weekly donation to Planet Aid is not only good for the environment, but it is a way to help those who are less fortunate. Planet Aid is a nonprofit organization known for empowering disadvantaged people from around the world. They use the funds generated from selling unwanted clothing to support international aid projects in Africa, Asia and the Americas. Planet Aid supports development projects that help individuals and communities improve the condition of their lives. These programs focus on spurring action in the areas of micro-financing, sustainable agriculture, health and disease prevention, education and community development.
One of the micro-financing projects Planet Aid supports that really attracted our attention was the mission of empowering women by delivering increased awareness of household finance in rural India. Women who are involved in this project have seen great change in their family’s livelihood, allowing them to gain better access to food and education. Through this project, women have also gained decision-making power within their family, and thus are able to more effectively contribute to raising their children. Plus, over 1,500 women who have participated in these micro-financing projects have even been able to acquire health insurance for their families, a huge accomplishment for many in rural India!
This is just one story of the many projects Planet Aid is able to fund with recycled textiles. If you would like to know more about Planet Aid and their projects, check out their website at http://www.planetaid.org/.

Strong women aren’t just locked up in the confines of history. Here are 7 women who are making powerful statements for what they believe in! We might not all agree with their goals but we can all follow suit and stand up for what we believe in!
“To actually feel like you’ve done something good with your life and you’re useful to others is what I was always wanting, and was always looking for.” –Angeline Jolie
Over the last few years, Angelina Jolie has used her fame to bring attention to the plight over women all over the world living in poverty and suffering gender-based violence, especially during times of war. She even directed a movie, In the Land of Milk and Honey, to help bring this issue to the forefront! While we might not have the same platform, we can all make efforts to do something good for others, whether it is volunteering at a soup kitchen, reaching out to a lonely classmate, or making sure you recycle at home.
“…if you are overdressed, it is a comment on them. If you are under dressed, it is a comment on you.” –Condoleezza Rice
Serving as the Head of the State Department under President Bush, Condoleezza Rice helped steer the country after 9/11 and the following turbulent times. She knew that how you present yourself is so important, both to you and the message you are advocating for. Condoleezza knows that how you present yourself has a big impact on how others perceive you, right or wrong, and she used that to her advantage. And, she once said her dream job was to run the NFL – how cool is that?
“I’ve never seen myself as a ‘girl driver.’ I’m just a driver.” –Danica Patrick
Danica Patrick is making a big splash in the world of professional racing as she is often the only woman competing and she’s one fierce competitor. Currently, she’s having one of her best seasons yet. We love that she isn’t letting something that is a stereotypically male job stop her from pursuing her dreams. Danica is quietly challenging peoples ideas about women in racing and winning in the process!
“Human rights are women’s rights, and women’s rights are human rights. Let us not forget that among those rights are the right to speak freely — and the right to be heard.” –Hilary Clinton
Hilary Clinton has been able to fight and raise awareness for women’s issues in her numerous roles in public life. By continuing to ensure that these issues are at the forefront of policymaking, she’s making a bold statement about what’s important. Because Hilary refuses to let women’s rights get swept under the rug, we all benefit by the debate she encourages.
“I care much more about saving the lives of mothers and babies than I do about a fancy museum somewhere.” –Melinda Gates
Along with her husband, Bill Gates, Melinda has helped give away more money to charitable causes than anyone else in the world. She’s making huge headway by funding projects that work to end maternal and infant mortality, stop malaria and educate women and girls around the world. We can all impact the world around us by fighting like Melinda does for the things we are passionate about!
“Don’t waste your energy trying to change opinions … Do your thing, and don’t care if they like it” –Tina Fey
Through her work on Saturday Night Live and other comedic endeavors, Tina Fey has endeared herself to millions of Americans. While some might not think girls can be funny, Tina ignores the haters and does her own thing – which is to our benefit! We all need a reminder sometimes to follow our heart and not get caught up in what everyone else is doing.
“Sometimes painful things can teach us lessons we didn’t think we needed to know.” –Amy Poehler
Another one of our first ladies of comedy, Amy Poehler, has also made a name for herself in a traditionally male-dominated field. Moreover, she’s proven that you don’t have to lose touch with your sensitive side to be successful or competitive. What a great reminder that there is something for us to learn in every experience, even the painful ones!
There are women all around us making bold statements about what they believe in, whether it’s politics, the arts, philanthropy or so much more! We’ve highlighted just a few of them here; please share your favorite modern women making powerful statements in the comments! We’d love to hear about them!

It turns out, moms really do know everything.
All of us have been on the listening end of a mom lecture, whether that lecture was delivered from our own mom, or from a “mom-ly” teacher or friend. While we tend to quickly role our eyes in the moment, what mom says really does hold weight in the real world. Here are 6 of our most favorite annoying things that moms say (that really do matter):
Mom: She who does not speak will not be heard.
Advice that holds true regardless of the audience; whether in front of your boyfriend or in front of a board meeting. Listen up girls; we shouldn’t be afraid to make a statement, or contribute our ideas to the conversation. Do your research, know your talking points, and give yourself enough credit to speak up.
Mom: Make the decision before you’re in the situation
Having a plan is important, no matter what you’ve got going on. It could be having a budget for going back to school shopping or how you’ll react during debate team. She’s right when she tells you to plan ahead, thinking through something helps you react as it happens.
Mom: No matter where you go and no matter what you do, there will always be someone better than you.
Humility is endearing. Just look at what happens when you go all Miley Cyrus on things; it’s not that attractive. It’s worth noting that humility requires confidence, not robs you of it. Brag less, believe in yourself, and steal every opportunity to learn from the people around you.
Mom: If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything.
True on the playground, and true in the lecture hall. There’s no value in saying something hurtful to gain some kind of advantage over people. That’s a move owned by bullies, and you’re better than that. Try complimenting before you cast aside, and you might just be surprised by the results.
Mom: There are plenty of fish in the sea.
True dat. That chump that broke your heart? He’s not worth the time or the energy. Let him know how you feel, and move on. It might not be easy, and it might feel like your chest in caving in at first; but there really are better options out there. Never settle for someone who readily takes advantage of your emotions.
Mom: A smile is a tremendously powerful thing. Use it recklessly.
A smile alleviates tension, casts aside anxiety, and it never goes out of style. Uniquely yours, your smile is your strongest accessory in this world. Use it to break the ice, convey confidence, or to help people feel more comfortable. Smile when you’re feeling down and in the dumps, and when you’re stressed and over-anxious. You might just find that fun things happen when you smile without regard for the consequences.
Mom: Always wear clean underwear. You never know when you’ll be in an accident.
Moms really do know what they are talking about. Thanks, mom and mom-like friends, for always having our back and knowing just what to say. What advice did your mom give you that turned out to be wise advice? Share your favorites with us in the comments below!

Having an education is a beautiful thing, but what isn’t, is the amount of money it costs to get that education. At Customized Girl, we want to help the women of tomorrow and we’re delighted to announce the Customized Girl Annual Scholarship!
As you have probably already noticed, we are all about statement makers and celebrating those who have an important message to share with the world. Statements are what we love and that’s why our scholarship is centered on making them!

When searching the internet we sometimes come across celebrities who have chosen to create custom shirts on Customized Girl. Today, we came across Melissa Rycroft’s custom peek-a-boo maternity shirt as she broke the news about her family expecting a new addition next spring!
We instantly recognized the peek-a-boo artwork and fonts from our site. Melissa was not the only one sporting a custom tee from us as you can see from the picture below. She also customized a men’s ringer tee and a girl’s tank top. She did a great job using our design center to create totally unique t-shirts and tank tops.
Here is the official announcement from Melissa Rycroft’s Facebook page:
“Sooo…It’s official, the Strickland Family is growing by one next Spring! Ava is so excited to be promoted to Big Sister!! We are so excited for our new little addition!!”

When it comes to Halloween, it’s hard to resist the urge to dress up as a favorite celebrity or character from a popular movie. We relish the opportunity to be seen as someone everyone will surely recognize, so what will be the hottest costumes this year? Based on popularity and the most shocking moments of 2013, we have compiled a list of five costumes that will certainly make an appearance this Halloween!
Her performance and outfit at the VMA’s were definitely a surprise and shocked a lot of people! And thanks to that performance, we all now know what it means to twerk. The teddy bear leotard or the vinyl bra and booty shorts will bring any girl a lot of attention if she chooses this as her Halloween costume!
She will probably be on this list until she is no longer performing. Lady Gaga is known for her crazy outfits and it is no surprise that she is in the top five! With every Lady Gaga appearance, we wait anxiously to see her new crazy look and for Halloween, we’ll wait to see what Lady Gaga-inspired costumes her little monsters create!
A lot of eyes were on Amanda Bynes as she became a hot mess this year. There are bound to be plenty of Amanda Bynes costumes replicating her court appearance look of when she wore sunglasses paired nicely with a blue wig!
Great Gatsby Inspired 20’s Flapper Dress
Because there is no party like a Gatsby party, the 1920 flapper dress is sure to be Halloween favorite for women!
Wicked Witch from OZ The Great and Powerful

“What I look like is not as important as who I am, Bubba.” – Jessie Spano
We all love fall fashion, the scarves, the boots and the cozy sweaters. And, of course, we especially love sloth shirts. However, fashion isn’t all there is to you. Knowing and staying true to who you are will serve you well all year long, regardless of fashion trends.
“Slater: You are a very strange person.
Screech: [flattered] Well, thanks for noticing.”
Screech is weird, but he’s right! It’s important to embrace your individuality. We each have something unique whether it’s a passion for stamp collecting, a strange talent for remembering dates or ability to tell a knock-knock joke at the drop of a hat. Join a new club or step up to lead one you were a part of last year to cultivate and grow those skills.
“Zack’s idea of a good education is sitting between a pretty girl and a smart nerd.” –Jessie Spano
Zack might be a funny loving goof ball but where would we be without Jessie’s insights? She’s right – Zack never saw school as more than a way to fill time between weekends. But at least he know what his priorities are, right? Take the time to write down your three or four top priorities for this school year, or for this business quarter.
“Slater: Hey, mama, wanna have a burger with a real man?
Jessie: Sure, I’ll go find one.”
Don’t settle – not for friends who treat you badly and not for boys who seem to think that a burger at the Max is a good as it gets.
“I have a map of every mall from here to Tijuana.” – Lisa Turtle
Like Lisa, it pays to be prepared. It might be just thinking about what you want from the mall or -gasp- actually studying for that exam but a little foresight never hurt anybody.
“Go to class, learn something.” – Mr. Belding
You gotta show up – to class, to the awkward dorm mixer, to the football game. Making friends in a new environment isn’t easy but you have to put yourself out there. Introduce yourself to a new person a week. And it does get easier with practice.
“So many boys, so little time.” – Kelly Kapowski
Just like Kelly, we all need a little spunk for life. Whether it’s taking on a new project at work, or jumping into an accelerated class, or joining a new club, there is always a new opportunity to put yourself out there and grow. Try taking on a new experience this month. Sign up for a class you’ve been putting off, or talk to someone you’ve been putting off for a while.
“Zack, I am not a matador so take the bull outside.” – Mr. Belding
Mr. Belding always had a quick comeback to the stunts the gang was always trying to pull. Being quick on your feet will help you handle life’s little hiccups with easy and a sense of humor.
“Yeah, ‘I have all these problems and there’s no-one ever there for me. I talk and talk and talk but no-one ever listens.” – Lisa Turtle
Lisa certainly isn’t ever short on words. Despite that, we all have time when we don’t feel heard. It doesn’t hurt to be like Lisa, not afraid to talk about what’s going on with your gang of good friends.
“You know, I’ve finally found out the best thing about high school, once you graduate you don’t have to come back.” – Zack Morris
Enjoy yourself while you can – life doesn’t slow down! Don’t get too focused on what’s next in your life; take time to enjoy where you are now, and make memories that you’ll always look back on.
