Sad News About Our Marine Category

We have received a Cease & Desist letter from attorneys representing the United States Marine Corps. They have requested that we remove all Marine-related art and all designs that use the words Marines, USMC, etc.

It’s a very sad day for us, because we love providing our customers the ability to create their own designs using elements from our design center.

We’re investigating a licensing situation, but it looks like it will take some time. In the meantime, we’ve changed that category to “Military Love“. Here you can find subcategories for Military Wife, Military Girlfriend, and Military Mom.

Military Love Category 2

We’d love to hear from all the Marine wives, Marine girlfriends, and Marine moms out there! If you would like to see Marine designs back on Customized Girl, join us in the fight to get our Marine category back! Please email us at CustomizedGirl@eretailing.com with your story of why you love customizing Marine shirts to support your loved one! We want to produce Marine designs for you again so we’re collecting as many stories as possible to show the Marines that our designs do way more good than harm to their brand!

Honor Our Military!

This week is a special one for those that are serving in or have a loved one serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Today, May 11, 2012, is Military Spouse Appreciation Day. It has been observed since May 23, 1984, when President Ronald Reagan acknowledged the importanance of spouse commitment to the readiness and well-being of military members. The U.S. Secretary of Defense standardized the date by officially declaring the Friday before Mother’s Day as Military Spouse Day.

Armed Forces Week begins the second Saturday in May and ends on the third Sunday. In 2012 it will run May 12–20. This week is a time to recognize those serving in the the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.

Armed Forces Day is celebrated the third Saturday in May, this year being May 19th. The day was created in 1949 by then Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson as a way to honor those serving in the U.S. military. It was intended to represent the unification of the armed forces under one department – the Department of Defense.

To all of the military spouses:  Thank you. The strength you have while your husbands or wives are on a tour of duty is undeniable. Thank you for giving up the most important person in your life so he or she can fight for our country.

To the men and women in our armed forces:  Thank you is not enough for what you do. Your bravery and commitment to the U.S. military is a true testament to your character. We truly appreciate all that you do.

Happy Veterans Day

Each year on November 11th, we take time to honor those who have served in the military, as well as those who are currently in the service.  Veterans Day is also celebrated as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day, and marks the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I.

We have observed Veterans Day with parades, speeches, and patriotic celebrations since its inception in 1919.  Author of the article, “Interesting Veterans Day Facts” Katherine Lewis, lists the following Veterans Day statistics:

Facts and Information:

In 2008 there were 23.2 million military veterans in the U.S. Of those:

  • 1.9 million were under the age of 35
  • 1.8 million were female
  • 9.2 million were 65 or older
  • 1.1 million were Hispanic
  • 2.3 million were black

Veterans by the War

A third of all living veterans served during the Vietnam War. In 2008, there were:

  • 7.8 million Vietnam-era veterans. (1964-1975)
  • 5.2 million Gulf War veterans. Of these, 16% were women. (August 1990 to present)
  • 2.6 million World War II veterans. (1941-1945)
  • 2.8 million Veterans of the Korean War. (1950-1953)
  • 50,000 veterans of both the Vietnam and Gulf War eras.

We celebrate and honor veterans of the past, but make sure you thank a living veteran and try to attend a parade or celebration in your community! It really does mean a lot to them!

Between the Lines Blog

Hello All and Happy Hump Day!

Many of our website’s regular visitors are wives of the military.  Notice, that I say wives of the Military and not wives of a Soldier, Marine, or Sailor. We all know that when you marry someone in the Military, you are marrying the Military as well. Your life can suddenly be moved across the states, or your husband can be suddenly deployed and away from home for several months at a time. We, at Customized Girl, know that these times are hard, stressful, sad, aggravating, and then some… all at the same time. Believe us; we’ve seen some of the shirts you’ve made. Thank goodness for the Internet and the invention of blogs, as these have become sources of comfort during hard times.

Why, you might ask, am I going on and on about this topic? Well the reason is, recently, a blog titled “Between the Lines Blog” did a review of Customized Girl.com. The writer of this blog is an Army Wife. I have to suggest that at some point or another, or now, you check out her blog. Laura is a new mother and her blog focuses on her new family. It is an upbeat and humorous blog.  Among many posts about her family she also posts delicious recipes, giveaways, and thoughts on the challenges of being an army wife. Her topics of conversation are things and issues we can all relate to. Oh and she also posts lots of great photos too!

So if ever  you need a pick me up, something to help you forget, or someone to relate to, I recommend a quick peek at Between the Lines Blog.
