15 Old Blog Posts That Were Not Very Cool

At Customized Girl, we are re-thinking the type of message that we want to share with the world.

Actually, we re-thought it many years ago, but it took us a little while to get back to these old blog posts. Some of our early “celebrity” click-baity blog titles were not cool. We regret them, so we’re taking them down.

We’re updating a couple of posts (like this one!) and replacing the text with a mea culpa. Yeah, we feel bad.

This one was about eating disorders. We wanted to acknowledge the pressure and pain that so many people feel in Hollywood, and that’s what we wrote about. But we had a pretty terrible title here and it seemed like we were calling out those struggling celebrities. Yikes.

Anyway, we’re officially changing directions. Customized Girl is about empowering women. We’ll help you make  your statement through custom apparel. Maybe your statement is serious. Maybe it’s totally goofy. But we just want you to feel good about it.

Celebrity Deathmatch: Top 15 Hollywood Rivalries

Celebrities, with their all-consuming vanity, monstrous paychecks, and petty concerns, often don’t get along with each other. It’s only natural what with all the competition in Hollywood. There’s competition over jobs, money, and, of course, men. Here’s a list of the biggest celebrity feuds to blow up in the media.

  1. Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton: Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie grew up together in Beverly Hills and took their lifelong friendship onto TV when they both agreed to the hit reality show The Simple Life. But soon after the end of the third season in 2005, the two had a mysterious fight that became apparent when they stopped showing up at every social function arm in arm. While the source of the two-year feud has been somewhat mysterious, with neither party confirming how it started, the word on the rumor mill is that Richie thought it would be funny to screen Hilton’s infamous sex tape during an L.A. party held to honor Hilton. Richie denies that ever happened, and in 2006 the pair suddenly decided to make up and launched into an orchestrated reconciliation with a host of public appearances. Now, the friendship is going strong. The duo appeared on The Simple Life together again last year and are now dating twin brothers Joel and Benji Madden!
  2. Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag: Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag went from pseudo celebrities to front page news after their televised feud began on The Hills, the sort-of reality MTV show that spun off from Laguna Beach. When Montag began dating playboy Spencer Pratt, the arguments between the two best friends began. Montag resented Conrads constant criticism of her boyfriend, and Conrad resented the fact that Montag immediately seemed to ditch her for her new relationship. Eventually the resentment, and Pratt’s constant degrading of Conrad, split the friendship apart. Today, the women continue to fight publicly and consistently dis each other in the press. Each woman is a frequent Us Weekly cover girl, the headline often expressing a nasty sentiment. With all the bad karma generated between these two, it would seem reconciliation is a longshot.
  3. David Letterman and Jay Leno : Once good friends, Jay Leno began appearing on his buddy David Letterman’s late night talk show in the early 1980s when he was just a budding comedian. But when Leno nabbed Johnny Carson’s spot as host of The Tonight Show in 1992, when Carson retired, Letterman’s became incensed and his bitterness has lasted through today. After following Carson for many years, Letterman assumed he would move up into the coveted chair as host of the show. When it went to Leno, Letterman publicly expressed his frustration over having given Leno such a prominent platform on his own show. Letterman ended up leaving the network for CBS where he became host of The Late Show. He has consistently beat Leno in the ratings since, but despite a plea from Leno to kiss and makeup the two men remain estranged.
  4. Lindsay Lohan and Hillary Duff: Even though Lindsay Lohan has had many feuds with many fellow female celebrities, including Ashlee Simpson, Scarlet Johansson, and Paris Hilton, her most publicized tiff was with Hillary Duff, who dated Lohan’s ex-boyfriend — the washed-up heartthrob Aaron Carter. According to some rumors, Carter cheated on Lohan with Duff. According to others, he cheated on Duff with Lohan. The fight escalated at the 2003 premiere of Duff’s movie Cheaper By the Dozen when Lohan showed up, infuriating Duff and sparking her and her entourage to leave. Today, with Carter a distant memory for both women, the feud seems to have dissipated, and the two were even spotted hugging at a 2007 event.
  5. Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell: These two supermodels have held deep-seated resentments toward each other since the beginnings of their modeling careers. As two of the only black supermodels on the fashion scene, Banks publicly stated that Campbell consistently verbally attacked her at photo shoots and even had her thrown off a couple of sets because of an argument. Banks said that she had always felt threatened by Campbell, who has a notorious reputation as an aggressive diva. Banks even claimed that Campbell approached her backstage at one show and said, “You’ll never be me. Don’t think you’ll ever be me.” In 2005, however, the two women had a tearful and heartfelt makeup session on the set of Banks’ talk show and since then the whole thing seems to be water under the bridge.
  6. Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal : To Shaquille O’Neal, the L.A. Lakers team had one leader – him. But when young hot shot Kobe Bryant came on the team that all changed. His superstardom and king-sized ego created instant warfare between the two, with O’Neal started demanding that Bryant kowtow to his seniority and position of authority. When that didn’t happen, and when Lakers officials started rewarding Bryant’s athletic prowess with money and praise, it was a war of self-inflated egos that took off in the press. In one of his rap songs in 2004, O’Neal spit words against Bryant, and blamed him for his eventual trade to the Miami Heat. Word on the street is that these two tall guys are still not even close to being friends.
  7. Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears: These two have been in competition since starring on the Mickey Mouse Club together. But when their independent singing careers blew up, the friendly competition became full-blown disdain. While Spears was more of the commercial success, Aguilera’s freight-train voice brought in all the awards. In 2003, the two women tried to play nice during an MTV Video Music Awards performance with Madonna, where both Spears and Aguilera smooched Madge on the mouth. Spears’ open-mouthed approach won all the press attention, but Aguilera shot back saying that during rehearsals Spears seemed like a nervous and insecure lost little girl. While not publicly arguing, the two women still could not be described as friends.
  8. Heather Locklear and Denise Richards: Talk about cold, Locklear and Richards were best friends for many years, with Richards even being one of a few of Locklear’s best friends to be invited to her cozy Locklear’s 44th birthday celebration. The two women became very close after meeting on the set of Spin City in 2001. But when Locklear’s marriage to Richie Sambora crumbled in 2006, Richards, fresh out of her split from Charlie Sheen, went in for the kill. According to some rumors, Locklear suspected that Sambora and Richards had relations before their divorce, but regardless, it’s not cool to date your best friend’s ex-husband even after the divorce. Even though the romance between Richards and Sambora was short lived, chances are there’s no reconciliation in the stars for these two bombshells.
  9. Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur: Again a rivalry that began with friendship, rap stars Notorious BIG, a.k.a. Christopher Wallace or Biggie, and Tupac Shakur had bridged the divide between East Coast and West Coast rap and had even collaborated on songs. But as the rift between the East Coast and West Coast rap scenes deepened, so did the rift between these two men. In 1994, Tupac was shot five times outside of a New York studio. He survived the shooting, but blamed in on Biggie and his pals at Bad Boy Records, which included Sean “Puffy” Combs. Biggie denied the allegation, but alluded to it in a song on his new album. Tupac shot back with a song of his own, in which he said he had slept with Biggie’s wife, R&B star Faith Evans. The beef between the men’s two record companies was on. Tupac died a couple of years later in a drive by shooting in Las Vegas; Biggie was similarly killed in 1997 in California. Both murders remain unsolved.
  10. Rosie O’Donnell and Donald Trump: When billionaire Donald Trump announced that he would not fire his cocaine-using Miss USA winner Tara Conner, O’Donnell used her perch as a host of The View to publicly criticize the real-estate tycoon, calling him “a snake-oiled salesman.” Trump followed back calling O’Donnell a “fat loser.” And on and on it went. The feud made all of the top TV talk shows and then fizzled out. But while the heat of the moment has passed, these two TV stars still hold a deep-seated hatred for one
  11. Alyssa Milano and Shannen Doherty: Doherty and Milano started out as best friends on the set of their hit TV show Charmed, which also starred Holly Marie Combs. But after a couple of years of long-hard days together, the friends turned into bitter enemies, with the show’s producers even sending in an outside mediator to help squelch the bickering between the two. That didn’t work and the same diva spirit that got Doherty ejected from the cast of Beverly Hills 90210 eventually got her ejected from the cast of Charmed, making her one of the most frequently fired actresses in Hollywood. In the end, it was nothing more than on-set jealousies that stood between the two with Milano admitting, “We definitely didn’t get along. Shannen and I are two very different people.” Milano remained on the now-defunct show and the two remain estranged.
  12. Shanna Moakler and Paris Hilton: Pretty much everyone, it seems, hates Paris Hilton. The starlet has been implicated in dozens of feuds with fellow Hollywood celebutants, but the mix-up she had with Shanna Moakler was one of the more virulent scraps. Moakler and her hubby Travis Barker, the drummer for Blink 182, split in August 2006, at which point he began a heavily photographed affair with Hilton. Though Moakler acted initially unaffected by the romance, things came to a head in October 2006 when the ladies ran into each other at Hollywood hotspot Hyde Lounge and ended the night by filing police reports against each other. Moakler accused Hilton’s ex-boyfriend of knocking her down the stairs and pouring his drink on her; Hilton accused Moakler of hitting her in the jaw. Moakler has since reconciled with her hubby, but not with Hilton.
  13. Tom Cruise and Brooke Shields: The rift between these two longtime friends was short lived but pretty dramatic. After giving birth to her daughter, Shields went through a long bout of postpartum depression, which she treated by using the antidepressant Paxil for a short time. After her recovery, Shields went on Oprah to discuss her experience and encourage other women going through similar experiences. Shortly after, Cruise lashed out at Shields during an interview with Matt Lauer, during which he said that she shouldn’t have used antidepressants to combat her feelings, but that she should have turned to vitamins and Scientology for help. When Lauer questioned Cruises’ scientific basis, Cruise said that neither Lauer nor Shields understood psychiatry. Cruise has since apologized to Shields for criticizing her, and Shields even attended his wedding to Katie Holmes.
  14. George Michael and Elton John: This feud began when Elton John told members of the press that he thought Michael was a drug addict with “a deep-rooted unhappiness in his life.” John also called his pal’s new album Patience “disappointing” and said “My message to George would be that you need to get out more.” Michael, extremely hurt by the comments, refused to speak to John for over nine months, and wrote a letter to a British celebrity magazine saying John barely even knew him. The duo finally reconciled over dinner at John’s house catered by TV Chef Gordon Ramsey.
  15. Stella McCartney and Heather Mills: The daughter and former wife of Beatle’s star Paul McCartney have been well-known foes since Mills married Paul in 2002. While Stella and Mills respectfully kept their ill-willed comments about each other out of the press, it was widely rumored that McCartney felt Mills was a money-hungry gold digger. The two were rarely seen together during her father’s four-year marriage to Mills and when the two split and Mills publicly accused McCartney of hitting his first wife, Stella’s mother Linda McCartney, McCartney called Mills a “b*tch and a liar.” Mills responded by taking out a restraining order against Stella and forbidding her from seeing her half-sister. The divorce has been finalized, but the bad feelings between these two women remains.

Top 20 Botched Celebrity Plastic Surgeries – Updated

Hi everyone!

You used to be able to find a fairly lengthy article here about, you guessed it, botched plastic surgeries.

We added it to our site a long time ago. Back then, this kind of blog posting was very much in fashion. Everyone wanted to create easily digestable, clickable content. Some companies still do this. Sometimes the results are great, sometimes they are a little cringe inducing.

Well, we’ve done some growing up. We’re getting older. We launched Customized Girl in 2004. In terms of internet technology companies, we are ancient. In our old age, we’re starting to reconsider some of our old habits.

We’re also starting to think about our legacy and our future. Even though we’re old, we plan on being around for another 200 years.

What do we want to tell the world? What is our core message? What impact can we have?

The truth is this. We want to empower women. We want to create a place where women and girls can feel positive about themselves and the world.

We print custom apparel and accessories. It may seem pretty simple. But when you open our design center, type out a phrase, and a week later you are wearing that phrase across your chest, walking down the street, holding your head high… this can be powerful. Something bigger is at play. Something as simple as a custom sweatshirt or a custom crop top can be extremely empowering.

You know what is not empowering? Sitting in a chair, writing an article about a celebrity’s plastic surgery nightmare. We made a mistake by publishing this post. So we took it down.

We’re all learning and growing, right? Change can be a good thing. Progress can be a great thing.

Thank you for understanding.

Top 100 Celebrity Sites

Forget Harvard diplomas and years of political and business experience. Today, celebrities rule the world. How else can we explain Paris Hilton’s all-consuming fame, which was seemingly bestowed on her for nothing more than a well-executed pout and frequent use of the phrase “That’s Hot.” Nowhere is our society’s celeb-obsessed status more evident than on the World Wide Web, which is littered with hundreds of celebrity gossip and news sites. Here’s a list the top 100 places to scrounge up some celebrity hearsay.

  7. Celeb Guru: No spiritual advice on this site, but there is a nice, healthy round-up of the latest celebrity news. Don’t expect to find any off-the-beaten-path stories here, though. Headlines are mostly culled from the blockbuster stories of the day.

  20. Gabsmash: Get your fill of celebrity news at Gabsmash and link to other celebrity gossip sites.
  21. Hollyweird Gazette: All the “sleazy celebrity news you can’t resist.” Actually, this site is a bit outdated. Here’s hoping the bloggers come back soon. In the meantime, it’s a useful place to link out to more current blogs.
  22. Snitch: Straightforward name, straightforward website. Don’t expect too many photos with your words, but you’ll get a good dose of the latest news. This site doesn’t have its own voice, but it does a great job of pulling together stories from blogs that do.
  23. YBF: “Celebrity gossip never looked so good” on this blog that covers every star that’s “Young, Black and Fabulous.” A great niche site with that employs good usage of catch phrases like Haterade in its headlines.
  24. We Smirch: A collection of all the latest reports from news outfits and blogs all over the web, We Smirch calls itself an “automatic dirt digger.” The complex site is well organized and presents many forums for reader discussion on the latest and greatest breaking news.

Top 20 Most Expensive Celebrity Divorces

Divorces among laymen are often characterized by a lot of bickering, a midnight move into an efficiency apartment, and drawn-out battles over automatic kitchen appliances. Celebrity divorces, however, are a little more complicated. While these couples bicker too, the arguments tend to go beyond who is getting the family cat. When celebrities split up, fortunes the size of a small college endowment are typically at stake, thereby taking the mudslinging and dirty tactics to a whole new level. Here’s a list of 20 of the most expensive celebrity breakups in recent history.

  1. Paul McCartney and Heather Mills: The contentious divorce between this ex-Beatle and former model is sure to go down in history as one of the ugliest, priciest splits ever with both parties using the media as an instrument to trade insults and heighten their positions. The couple met at a fundraiser and married in 2002. A year later Mills gave birth to their daughter Beatrice and three years after that it was announced that the British duo was splitting. While negotiations of the settlement are still in the works, it’s rumored that a final agreement will be announced soon. It’s also rumored that Mills could walk away with up to $120 million in U.S. dollars, an impressive win for Mills, who has been representing herself in the divorce case.
  2. Michael and Juanita Jordan: The former Chicago Bulls star has several athletic records under his belt, and now he’s set another – this time for the most expensive divorce settlement on record. His split from wife Juanita after 17 years of marriage cost him $168 million. Aside from the money, Juanita also received the couple’s Chicago home and custody of all three of their children. An impressive exchange of dough for a couple who started out with humble beginnings, having met at Bennigan’s and eloped in Las Vegas.
  3. Neil Diamond and Marcia Murphey: Diamond and Murphey’s 1995 divorce was on record as the most expensive celebrity breakup until the news about the Jordan’s. But after 26 years of marriage, the couple, who have two children together, split to the tune of $150 million. Questioned about the sum after the proceedings were final, Diamond famously quipped, “She’s worth every penny.” Diamond credited Murphey with helping him “keep his sanity” during the most tumultuous and busy times of his career. After his divorce, Diamond began dating an Australian woman 30 years his junior.
  4. Steven Spielberg and Amy Irving: Spielberg has made his fortune producing and directing blockbuster hits, like E.T. and Indiana Jones. But he lost half of his assets during his divorce from Amy Irving in 1989 after only four years of marriage. At the time, the settlement was big news, and the $100 million Irving received still ranks in many top 10 lists of the most expensive divorce pay outs. Surely, Spielberg has gotten over it by now. Currently, he’s worth over $3 billion.
  5. Harrison Ford and Melissa Mathison: Married for over 20 years, Mathison and Ford met in 1977 before he was landing multi-million dollar roles, therefore no pre-nuptial agreement was deemed necessary at the time. But by the time they split up, Ford was earning over $20 million per picture. As part of the deal, Mathison won future earnings from unreleased movies Ford made while they were still married, and she walked away with a sum total of $85 million, leaving Ford free to pursue his current flame, Calista Flockhart.
  6. Kevin Costner and Cindy Silva: These two college sweethearts divorced in 1994 after a 16-year marriage that produced three children. They married right after their graduation from California State University in Fullerton, and Costner struggled to make a name for his self in Hollywood during the early years of their marriage before striking it big with Oscar-winning hits like Dances With Wolves.
  7. James Cameron and Linda Hamilton: The powerhouse director and buff actress met while filming The Terminator, which Cameron directed and Hamilton starred. Their marriage in 1997 lasted a measly 18 months, a paltry timeline that wouldn’t be reflected in the monstrous divorce settlement. Accused of having an affair and being something of a tyrant, Hamilton called Cameron a “miserable man” and landed an official settlement of $50 million. Part of this luck came from the fact that Cameron received his $100 million paycheck for Titanic during their marriage, of which Hamilton got a major share.
  8. Michael and Diandra Douglas: Michael and Diandra Douglas married in 1977 after nine weeks of courtship and had one son, Cameron. When they split in the mid 1990s, Diandra accused him of perpetual cheating and being an absentee father. The couple was known to split up and get back together, but the years of womanizing and alcoholism had caught wearied the couple and by the time of their split, making a reconciliation impossible. In what was then a landmark settlement, Diandra received $45 million and two properties in Majorca and Beverly Hills. Since the divorce, Douglas has remarried Catherine Zeta-Jones, who is 25 years younger than him. They have two children together.
  9. Lionel and Diane Ritchie: The dissolution of the eight year marriage between Lionel and Diane Ritchie became fodder for gossip magazines worldwide when Diane petitioned for a settlement of $300,000 a month, outlining in depositions the lifestyle allowance she had during the couple’s marriage. Diane claimed she was entitled to the amount so she could keep up the “extravagant lifestyle” she had become accustomed to during the marriage. Detailed in the documents was Diane’s request for $50,000-per-month for manicures, massages and other beauty services, $15,000-per-month for clothing, $5,000-per-month for jewelry, and $20,000-per-year for plastic surgery, among other outrageous allotments. While Diane wasn’t successful in securing her asking price, she did walk away with a cool $20 million, making this a celebrity divorce for the history books.
  10. Donald and Ivana Trump: During her divorce from Donald Trump in 1992, Ivana Trump coined a catty phrase that would become a mantra for rich divorcees everywhere – “Don’t get mad, get everything.” After learning that Donald was having an affair with Marla Maples, a Georgia-born beauty queen, in 1990, Ivana decided to go for the jugular and walked away from their 20-plus-year relationship with $20 to $25 million, plus some property rights. Since then, both the Trumps have moved on to other marriages and other divorces. Donald married Maples and they divorced in 1999. He is currently married to Melania Trump, a 37-year-old Slovenian model. Ivana married business man Riccardo Mazzucchelli. They divorced two years later.
  11. Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall: Jerry Hall, a model from Texas, met Jagger, the lead singer of the Rolling Stones in the 1970s, when both she and he were in relationships with other people. Dating through the 1980s, the couple wed in a Balinese ceremony in 1990 and had four children together. In the late 1990s, Hall discovered that Jagger had impregnated another woman and his consistent infidelity came to a head. While Jagger won a petition to annul the marriage, claiming that the Hindu ceremony wasn’t legal, Hall still walked away with $10 million. Small change when looking at Jagger’s $300 million net worth, but Hall has been able to capitalize on the marriage in other ways – recently she signed a $2 million book deal to write about her longtime relationship with Jagger and expose the details of their divorce.
  12. Clint Eastwood and Maggie Johnson: The Western star-turned-Oscar-winning-director married Maggie Johnson in the 1950s when they were still young and way before he was famous. The couple met on a blind date and wed six months after their first blind date. They had two children together. When they split in 1978, Maggie reportedly received $25 million. Clint has since had other serious relationships and is currently married to Diana Ruiz.
  13. Ted Danson and Casey Coates: Cheers star Ted Danson married fashion designer Casey Coates in 1976. They had two children together, and after the birth of their first child Casey had a bad stroke. Danson took a break to take care of her, but eventually ended up leaving Coates to pursue a relationship with Whoopi Goldberg. Coates got a $30 million settlement after the 15-year marriage.
  14. Bruce Springsteen and Julianne Phillips: Springsteen, a legendary 1980s rock star, married Phillips, a model and actress in 1985. Their relationship was tumultuous and short-lived and they filed for divorce in 1988. The breakup was attributed to Springsteen’s unhappiness and subsequent affair with his backup singer, Patti Scialfa. Phillips received a $20 million payout for her trouble.
  15. Johnny and Joanna Carson: Johnny Carson, the king of late night, married four times in his life, but his most financially successful spouse was model/socialite Joanna Holland, who extracted $20 million out of their ugly and long divorce. They married secretly and divorced after 10 years of marriage, outlasting most speculators. At the time of their split, Carson was the highest paid TV personality, pulling in $15 million a year. The divorce stretched out over three years and was highly publicized. Though he fought tooth and nail, Holland wound up winning cash, three properties in New York and one in Beverly Hills.
  16. Sylvester Stallone and Sasha Czack: Stallone, most famous for his role as boxer Rocky Balboa, and Czack, a photographer, married in 1974 and divorced 11 years later after 2 children. Their second child was diagnosed with autism and the illness was said to have put a strain on the marriage. Czack walked away with $12 million. Apparently this silver screen boxer really did take a few too many shots to the head. We’ll have more from Sylvester later on down in this list.
  17. Kenny and Marianne Gordon Rogers: Country star Rogers has been married five times, but no marriage was more expensive than his fourth to actress Marianne Gordon. The couple was together for 16 years, and upon their split Marianne got a $60 million settlement. Never bitter, Rogers told the press that she “deserved it” for putting up with him. This man usually known for his soft tunes and his soft heart might have another side that his publicist has done a good job at hiding.
  18. Sylvester Stallone and Brigitte Nielsen: Sly Stallone makes this list twice after his 1985 marriage to actress Brigette Nielsen ended just two years later with a $6 million settlement. The two met on a movie set, starring in both Rocky IV and Cobra together. Nielsen is perhaps best known now for her reality TV career, having starred in VH1’s The Surreal Life, during which she began her notorious fling with rapper Flavor Flav.
  19. Jim Carrey and Melissa Womer: Funnyman Jim Carrey met his first wife Melissa Womer before he was famous. She was working as a waitress at The Comedy Store, a comedy club in West Hollywood when they met. They were married for eight years and had a daughter Jane. Their messy divorce left Carrey’s wallet $3.5 million lighter. Jim has since been involved in many relationships and some have even been rumored to be on the brink of engagement. Unfortunately for your him he wasn’t just the Grinch that stole Christmas as this man of many masks has yet to tie the knot. Keep trying Jim we’re pulling for you!
  20. Burt Reynolds and Loni Anderson: This stylish couple was married from 1988 to 1993 and together they adopted one son. Their child became the forefront of their much-publicized divorce drama as they battled in court over custody rights. Eventually, the matter was settled and Loni walked away with $2 million. Sorry Burt, while you have many great roles and have kept us on our toes for a long time, this lady was not for you.
