It’s Easy to Adopt a Family this Christmas, we did!

It’s always better to give than it is to receive around Christmas time! Fueled by this Christmas spirit, we decided to adopt a local family here in Columbus, Ohio for Christmas. The holiday season is the perfect time to make a donation or volunteer in your local community, and if you have ever considered adopting a family for Christmas, the process is super simple and enjoyable!

First, you need to find a local service agency in your area. We chose to go through a local church to find a family we could adopt this year. The organization you choose to go through will help you find the right size of family that will fit within your budget. This is the exciting part because you’ll be able to find out the names of the kids you’ll be buying gifts for and you’ll also receive their wish lists. This year we have three awesome kids we will be buying gifts for and they are James, Johanna and Linda.

Once you have your family and their wish lists, all you need to do is go shopping and bring the gifts back to your local agency. It’s that simple! For our family, we chose to make it a company wide event. We wrapped a donation box and placed it in the break room so everyone from the Customized Girl team could have a chance to make a money donation to help us buy gifts. The response in donations was amazing and we can’t wait to go shopping for our family!

A big thank you to all of you who are making a statement by adopting a family for Christmas or volunteering in some other way to make Christmas special for others this year!

Customized Girl Donates to Planet Aid

Before we send out any order, the printed item and its print quality go through a detailed inspection to ensure our customer is receiving the very best product possible. If we spot any imperfection in the item or the printing, we put the flawed product aside and start over. At Customized Girl, we are very attentive to what is going on in the world and are very well aware that there are others in need. That is why instead of throwing out these imperfect products, we donate all of them directly to Planet Aid.

Making this weekly donation to Planet Aid is not only good for the environment, but it is a way to help those who are less fortunate. Planet Aid is a nonprofit organization known for empowering disadvantaged people from around the world. They use the funds generated from selling unwanted clothing to support international aid projects in Africa, Asia and the Americas. Planet Aid supports development projects that help individuals and communities improve the condition of their lives. These programs focus on spurring action in the areas of micro-financing, sustainable agriculture, health and disease prevention, education and community development.

One of the micro-financing projects Planet Aid supports that really attracted our attention was the mission of empowering women by delivering increased awareness of household finance in rural India. Women who are involved in this project have seen great change in their family’s livelihood, allowing them to gain better access to food and education. Through this project, women have also gained decision-making power within their family, and thus are able to more effectively contribute to raising their children. Plus, over 1,500 women who have participated in these micro-financing projects have even been able to acquire health insurance for their families, a huge accomplishment for many in rural India!

Having an education is a beautiful thing, but what isn’t, is the amount of money it costs to get that education. At Customized Girl, we want to help the women of tomorrow and we’re delighted to announce the Customized Girl Annual Scholarship!

As college students, we know you are busy enough with essays, exams and, more than likely, even a part-time job to help pay for the degree you are working towards, so we wanted to keep our scholarship simple and to the point. Sad News About Our Marine Category

We have received a Cease & Desist letter from attorneys representing the United States Marine Corps. They have requested that we remove all Marine-related art and all designs that use the words Marines, USMC, etc.

It’s a very sad day for us, because we love providing our customers the ability to create their own designs using elements from our design center.

We’re investigating a licensing situation, but it looks like it will take some time. In the meantime, we’ve changed that category to “Military Love“. Here you can find subcategories for Military Wife, Military Girlfriend, and Military Mom.

While we agree our printing process is pretty darn good, in the printing business, there is always room for improvement. We are constantly tweaking and adding new features to make our prints better than our competitors!

We already have a big advantage because we do direct-to-garment printing on almost all of products, instead of screen-printing. Direct-to-garment printing allows us to offer a full range of colors offered at no extra charge, and no minimums or setup fees. With direct-to-garment printing, we can speed up the printing process while still producing great quality prints and in return, we can pass the savings on to you.

In addition, we have also added new state-of-the-art dryers. When newly printed shirts dry quicker, you get a better print and it lasts much longer. So not only do you have a wider variety of selections to choose from, you also receive a higher quality product to wear over and over again!

Our Mustache Tank Top & Other Prizes Were a Hit At the Beard Championships Raffle!

We are big fans of our mustache designs available on Customized Girl and we know you are too! A while back we were contacted by a representative from the 2nd Annual Mid-Atlantic Beard & ‘Stache Championships in Richmond, Virginia. They were holding a raffle to raise money for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the greater Richmond and tri-cities area and they asked if we could contribute. We were happy to send them a modest gift card, and they used it to create and purchase all of the incredibly awesome mustache-themed items pictured below.  By the end of the raffle, they had raised over $5,400 for Big Brothers Big Sisters!  All of these items are now available to purchase at Customized Girl: Multi-Mustache Flowy Tank, Vintage Woman Mustache T-Shirt, Classic Imperial Mustache Undies and Mustache Skull Tote Bag.

Friends of Feil Benefit in Chicago

Friends of Feil

Chris Feil is a friend of ours here at Customized Girl. He is a Chicago Police Officer that most recently worked in the special gang unit for the City of Chicago.  He has been a police officer for almost 10 years. He has made a great name for himself within the police force, his unit and his community. A little over 2 years ago he was in a serious car accident while in pursuit of a suspect. The accident left him with tremendous pain and permanent damage to his back. He has recently had to undergo his third major back surgery. On a daily basis he deals with a tremendous amount of pain, the loss of mobility and constant numbness in his legs and feet. Most of these symptoms will never go away, but the hope is the pain will subside. The recovery process will be very slow and will take up to a year to possibly see any real long term results.

On Saturday, May 11th, 2013 a benefit will be held at 115 Bourbon Street in Chicago to help raise money for Chris, his wife, and their four girls. Any money raised will go towards helping Chris and Sam with day to day living cost. If you are in Chicago, or if you’re not, and you’re just interested in doing what you can to help a police officer who needs it, consider attending the benefit or donating in any way you can.

It was the least we could do to donate a few shirts for the cause. They will be available to purchase at the benefit. More details on Chris’s Facebook Page and on the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation’s website.
