Every year in the month of June individuals come together to promote a positive stance against discrimination and violence toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people. This month is meant to bring awareness and a sense of community to all human beings who face inequality on a day to day basis. To celebrate the progress and accomplishments for equal rights, we want to share our favorite Gay Pride shirts!
The correlation behind June being the official month for Gay Pride is to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan. The Stonewall riots were a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. Many commemorate this month with parades, festivals, and rally’s to acknowledge the acceptance and welcoming of diversity, regardless of sexual orientation.
